+ January 20, 2019: Rev. Dr. Bernard Lafayette +

In Peace and Freedom: My Journey in Selma. Rev. Dr. Bernard Lafayette will share his experience as a Baptist minister, civil rights leader, peace and social justice advocate, and educator. As a member and co-founder of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), Rev. Lafayette participated in the most significant civil rights campaigns of the 1960s. He took part in the Nashville Sit-Ins in 1960 and Freedom Rides in 1961. As a trusted colleague of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., he joined thousands of other civil rights activists in the Selma to Montgomery March in 1965 and, one year later, in Chicago's Open Housing Movement. Co-sponsored with the Black Cultural Center, Carter G. Woodson Center, African and African-American Studies, CCC, and the Office of the President Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Convocation.
